Obama Talks Responsibility at NAACP
In one of the most historic speeches in the NAACP's 99 years, Barack Obama discussed the sacrifices of generations of African-Americans who came before him and the need for personal and parental responsibility. "Yes, we have to demand more responsibility from Washington and yes we have to demand more responsibility from Wall Street," he said, "but we also have to demand more from ourselves."

Bush Lifts Oil Drilling Ban
President Bush, hoping to turn the enormous public frustration about gasoline prices into political leverage, challenged the Democratic-led Congress to lift a similar congressional ban that's been in place since 1981. Democrats say new drilling won't have a short-term impact on the pump.

Olympic Bid Raises $12 Million at Fundraiser
Needing to raise $49 million to help secure the 2016 Olympic Games, organizers of Chicago's bid estimated they raised more than $12 million at at a Millennium Park fundraiser Monday night. Speaking to the assembled crowd of the city's well-heeled, Mayor Richard Daley pointed to Millennium Park as an example of Chicagoans can-do spirit.

New Study: Global Warming Could Increase Illinois Kidney Stones
A new report published Monday found that climate change could extend the "kidney-stone belt" to the north, bringing a sharp increase in cases of kidney stones in Illinois and other Midwestern states. According to the Tribune, "sweating in warm weather removes fluid from the body and increases the salt concentration in urine, which can spur the growth of kidney stones."
