On June 19, the Illinois Center for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) held an overnight vigil at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in the Chicago suburb of Broadview. The gathering was part of a nationwide campaign "to end immigration raids without due process, correct inhumane conditions in detention centers, and get action on the backlog of citizenship applications." Over a hundred residents and activists attended.

The Washington Post's Dana Priest thoroughly documented the reprehensible treatment of detained illegal immigrants earlier this year. And shortly after the ICIRR vigil, the Tribune reported on concerns surrounding the Broadview facility. Furthermore, a large rally last weekend in Postville, IA drew attention to the questionable legal proceedings that followed an ICE raid of a meatpacking plant there in May -- not to mention the awful working conditions at the factory itself.

Today, ICIRR released a video shot during the Broadview gathering. Titled "A Hidden System," it features excerpts of speeches during the event, as well as remarks from various local activists about the need to shine a light on ICE's detention system.  Watch it:
