Thanks to a poorly researched "suggestion" by the conservative Illinois Review blog that congressman and soon-to-be White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel doesn't pay property taxes on his home, this rumor is now circling the internet and apparently even came up on an XM radio show this morning. So, in the hopes of attracting some of the Google searches resulting from this little monster, here are the facts.
Actually, there's really just one fact: Emanuel does pay his property taxes. Courtesy of Capitol Fax -- which quickly debunked the Illinois Review post yesterday -- here's a copy of Emanuel's tax bill from last year (click for larger version):

UPDATE: By the way, IR deleted the Emanuel-related posts this morning, decrying the "the thuggery of the Left and their political masters here in Illinois ... whose propaganda machines never allow facts to get in the way of their lies."

I went to the Cook County website and typed in the PIN Number (14-18-408-035-0000) that you have posted on your blog for Rahm Emanuel and the address that comes up is 4232 N Hermitage Ave not 4228 N Hermitage Ave.
Can you clarify this address issue and as to whether or not he pays property taxes for the 4228 address? Also, who owns the 4232 property on this tax listing for the PIN Number that you listed on your blog?

He lives on a two-lot parcel. The house is on the 4228 lot and his yard is on the 4232 lot. If you look at this map of the parcel and compare it to the single lot parcels to the south, you'll see what I'm saying:

The Parcel Identification Number (PIN) listed above is associated with the 4232 lot. But the taxes are assessed on the entire property/parcel, which spans both lots
If he was only paying taxes on the 4232 lot -- as some seem to be suggesting -- the assessment wouldn't include any building -- just land. But as you can see at the following link, the property includes both a house (2719 sq. ft.) and a great deal more land (10,312 sq. ft):
