Quinn Happy With Campaign Finance Deal
Calling it a "historic day for Illinois," Gov. Pat Quinn all but
assured reporters that he would sign campaign finance legislation
that lawmakers approved Friday.
Abortion Notification Begins Tomorrow
Starting tomorrow, physicians in Illinois must begin notifying a parent
or guardian when a minor seeks an abortion. A federal
appeals court in Chicago lifted a federal injunction in July on a 1995
version of the controversial state parental notification, clearing it
for enforcement.
Failure To End Free Rides Angers Daley
Mayor Daley is not pleased that Senate Democrats in Springfield blocked
efforts Friday to undo the free-rides-for-seniors program on
Chicago-area mass transit systems. "Some legislators didn't want to
work this out," Daley said Saturday. "It seems like nothing can get
done in Springfield."
Jim Ryan Enters Gubernatorial Race
Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan will file paperwork today to secure a
spot on the primary ballot in the Republican governor's race. Ryan lost
to former Governor Rod Blagojevich in 2002.
Sheriff: Use Home Confinement For Petty Crooks
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says implementing a more robust electronic
monitoring program for non-violent offenders would save money and allow
him the opportunity to shut down a jail unit.
