State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias earned the endorsement of the Illinois Federation of Teachers today in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. From a press release:
"Alexi Giannoulias is an advocate for public education," said Ed Geppert, Jr., president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, which represents 103,000 members statewide. "He understands the importance of additional revenue and a strong system of public education, spanning from pre-K to higher education, and he has a strong record as an employer of public workers." [...]
"I share IFT's commitment to providing a first-rate education for every child in this state and supplying our students with the necessary tools to help them find a good job once they graduate," Giannoulias said. "All our students deserve to have good teachers, and we owe it to them to give those teachers the resources they need to be successful."
Meanwhile, CBS 2's Mike Flannery reports that neither Cheryle Jackson nor Jacob Meister have submitted their personal financial disclosures to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics. (The committee requires Senate candidates to turn in the forms within 30 days of declaring their run.) Meister received an extension, but Jackson did not:
Jackson called it "an oversight." She added that she's doing a complete review of her involvement with several not-for-profit boards before completing the disclosure.
"We've shared our taxes, and we'll submit our financial disclosure statement -- we want to make sure that we've crossed every T, but if anything … you know, the course of the campaign you get busy," Jackson said at Robeson High School, where she was attending an event.
Jackson didn't say when her campaign would file the Senate financial disclosure.
Finally, Meister has a new ad up on his YouTube page, featuring several Illinois small business owners. Check it out:
Full Disclosure: The SEIU Illinois State Council, which sponsors this website, has endorsed Alexi Giannoulias in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.
