The Sun-Times is reporting that the Illinois AFL-CIO, which held its endorsement session this morning, has declined to support either Gov. Pat Quinn or Democratic challenger Dan Hynes:
Tuesday’s weighted vote of Illinois AFL-CIO member unions was 58-42 for Hynes, short of the two-thirds majority needed for an endorsement. That means neither campaign will get the cash and manpower resources an endorsement would have brought, though the member unions are free to campaign on their own.
On the heels of the Illinois Federation of Teachers' endorsement of Hynes last week, this outcome wasn't unexpected. Nonetheless, the Hynes campaign is attempting to frame it as a "major rebuke to a sitting Democratic governor."
In other news, the Quinn campaign has posted a video from their press conference yesterday announcing the support of several political leaders on Chicago's West Side, including Congressman Danny Davis. Watch it:
Full Disclosure: The SEIU Illinois State Council, which sponsors this website, has endorsed Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary for governor.
