Another day, another news report on the Employee Free Choice Act that fails to challenge the assertion that the congressional legislation would "remove an employee's right to a secret ballot." This one came from Fox Chicago's Jeff Goldblatt and aired on Sunday night:
As we noted in response to similar assertion from WTTW last week, both unionization methods that currently exist under U.S. labor law -- majority sign up ("card check") and union elections ("the secret ballot") -- would be preserved under EFCA. Neither will be removed or replaced. What the bill does is allow the workers, rather than the employer, choose which method they want to use to form a union.
