Wonder if he'll apologize to Pat Quinn for the inflammatory -- and wholly intentional -- rhetoric he used at the City Club yesterday:
Kirk criticized new Gov. Pat Quinn for doing little to get reforms enacted and for pushing an income tax increase.
"I think that the decision to raise taxes by 50 percent in Illinois is political suicide," Kirk said of Quinn's proposal to raise the tax rate to 4.5 percent from 3 percent, coupled with an increase in the personal deduction. "I think the people of Illinois are ready to shoot anyone who is going to raise taxes by that degree."
Disgraceful. Capitol Fax has more, including the observation that Kirk "sounds like Alan Keyes on meth."
UPDATE: The AP reports that Kirk is "standing by" his comments yesterday.
UPDATE II (4/17): Watch Kirk's full statement.
