On WFLD's Good Day Chicago this morning, AFSCME Council 31 spokesperson Anders Lindall appeared to discuss the ongoing budget stalemate in Springfield. Specifically, he offered State Sen. James Meek's tax plan (HB 174) as "the best solution, the right solution." Watch it:
LINDALL: There is a solution. It happens to be the best solution, the right solution, and the one with the most political support. House Bill 174, sponsored by Sen. James Meeks, has passed the Senate, it has passed a House committee. The governor has previously indicated support for it. It would raise enough revenue to prevent these kind of cuts.
Sen. Toi Hutchison also offered up some real talk following a meeting with Gov. Quinn yesterday:
"There's no way we're going to get out of this without cuts and revenue enhancements," said state Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields). "Walking around acting like we can do this without an income tax increase is disingenuous at best."
Quinn is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:30 this afternoon in which he will lay out some new budget cuts in the hopes of attracting more support for a income tax hike. We'll have an update on that later today.
