Last night, Sean Hannity aired the following report on Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias as his top story:

To their credit, the Giannoulias campaign does a good job of pushing back against Hannity's "distortions and smears."  Read the full response on their Daily Kos diary here.

Particularly ridiculous is Hannity's use of the $85 million loss suffered last year by the Bright Start college savings fund under Giannoulias' stewardship.  Not surprisingly, Hannity makes no mention of the fact that, as of June, a tentative settlement had been reached to recoup as much as $77 million of those lost funds.  Indeed, the Daily Kos post mentions that the "specific details of the settlement will be announced very soon."

As an aside, why are respected Chicago reporters like the Tribune's Rick Pearson and the Sun-Times' Abdon Pallasch submitting to interviews with Hannity?  Considering his track record, how can they possibly be confident the resulting report will be fair and accurate?
