As we suspected, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. today endorsed Ald. Toni Preckwinkle in the Democratic primary for Cook County board president. From a press release:

"Toni Preckwinkle is the only candidate with the political independence and the progressive vision to fix Cook County's broken government and get people back to work. She'll fight to get rid of patronage, repeal the Stroger tax increase and help restore our faith in county government. I'm proud to endorse Toni Preckwinkle as the next Cook County Board President."

Jackson's announcement follows Preckwinkle endorsements from Reps. Jan Schakowsky and Luis Gutierrez.  Congressman Danny Davis is backing Dorothy Brown in the race.

In other news, both the Chicago Current and the Chicago Tribune have examined the latest contribution filings from the Democratic candidates.  Specifically, they looked at the latest A-1 forms, which the candidates are required to file (within 30 days of the election) whenever they receive a contribution exceeding $500.  It's hard to glean much from these filings, however.  The real news will come tomorrow, when the candidates file their D-2 disclosures (which span the final six months of 2009).
