In the Democratic primary for the 10th Congressional District, State Rep. Julie Hamos is on a roll this week, receiving endorsements from both of the major daily newspapers in Chicago. First up was the Tribune, which announced their support for her on Monday (while also supporting Robert Dold over Beth Coulson in the GOP race):
Our endorsement goes to state Rep. Julie Hamos of Wilmette. She has a fine record on ethics reform, domestic violence laws and early childhood education. She patiently and quite skillfully engineered new law that shored up the finances and instituted critical pension reforms for Chicago-area mass transit.
The Sun-Times then endorsed her this morning:
[T]his is an easy call for us: We endorse Julie Hamos.
Hamos' qualifications are excellent. In an Illinois House controlled by one man -- Speaker Mike Madigan -- she has been an impressively independent and yet effective legislator since arriving in Springfield in 1998.
In other news, Hamos has disclosed that she raised $535,000 during the fourth quarter of last year. Also, the Windy City Times profiled both Hamos and Dan Seals. Furthermore, Seals posted a new web ad, titled "Potential." Watch it:
UPDATE (12:30 p.m.): Somehow we missed that the Daily Herald endorsed Seals last weekend as well. From their Sunday editorial:
Hamos led the recent effort to bail out mass transit, in part by securing a sales tax increase. Seals seems more worried about federal spending and spiraling debt. In a very close call, we give the edge to Seals for his concern for cutting spending and our belief that he may be more independent and, therefore, a better fit for the 10th District.
