Here's the latest from the 10th Congressional District primary ...

Dan Seals released another web ad this week titled "Genuine." It stars his own mother, who testifies to how "genuine and ethical" he is. Watch it:

The Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) also endorsed Seals earlier this week.

Meanwhile, fellow Democratic contender Julie Hamos is running a competing web spot featuring her own family. Watch this video, titled "Heritage," which highlights her parents' survival of the Holocaust, Hamos' personal story of immigrating to the U.S. from Budapest as a child, and her pro-Israel views:

On a related note, one of the pro-Israel community's most outspoken advocates in Congress, Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV), is endorsing Hamos. More from a release:

“Congress needs leaders like Julie Hamos, and the pro-Israel community needs her voice and her passion,” Berkley said. “Julie’s support for Israel is not a political platform or campaign talking point. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, Julie understands the stakes of a safe and secure Israel and what a nuclear Iran would mean to the world.”

Hamos touted her immigrant experience when she recently accepted the endorsement of the the Chapala Group, a Waukegan-based Latino civic organization. Here's some video posted by the campaign:

More on the Chapala Group's endorsement, via a release:

"We are proud to endorse Julie Hamos because she has a track record of taking on issues that immediately affect our communities," said Paula Carballido, spokeswoman for Chapala Group. "She will be an advocate for our economy, immigration reform and health care - issues incredibly important to the Latino community."

Over on the Republican side, State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson got a boost this week when she snagged an endorsement from former 10th District Rep. John Porter. Crain's Greg Hinz notes of the political significance:

Mr. Porter's backing should be quite helpful to Ms. Coulson, who faces several more-conservative foes in next month's GOP primary. The action is particularly important because the district's incumbent, Republican Mark Kirk, is running for the U.S. Senate and thus far is not publicly backing anyone as his successor [...]

Political analysts consider the race in the district to be fairly close, as is the Democratic contest between businessman and former candidate Dan Seals and state Rep. Julie Hamos.
