voters and mobilizing them for the fall campaign. This is very
important. If we do this right, it will help lay the groundwork for
victory in November. (Failing to do this will make our job much more
difficult.) If possible, please help us out. All we need is two hours
of your time....

Snacks and drinks will be provided. The Democratic National
Convention will be on TV. It will be a fun party atmosphere. (Certainly
better than watching from home by yourself, and more productive too!)

Tuesday, August 26 -- 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Wednesday, August 27 -- 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Jeff Cassens and Marcus Albrecht invite you to

A SPECIAL FILM SERIES which asks the question:

“WHAT ARE APPROPRIATE POLITICAL AND ETHICAL CITIZENSHIP RESPONSES TO THE WAR IN IRAQ?”

August 20 - “Conspiracy” (2002)

On January 20, 1942, Nazi commanders and government officials held a
special meeting. From this meeting a final solution would result in
sealing the fate of six million people. This film is based on the only
account of that meeting.

September 3 – “Fahrenheit 9/11” (2004)

What happened to the US after September 11 and how the Bush
Administration used the tragic event to push forward unjust wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq.

September 17 – “Control Room” (2004)

A film about Al Jazeera and its relations with the US Central
Command as well as other news organizations that covered the 2003
invasion of Iraq.

October 1 - “Iraq for Sale” (2006)

A film about the Iraq War and the behavior of companies with no-bid
contracts working within Iraq. The film claims that Blackwater,
KBR-Halliburton, CACI and Tiran are overbilling the US government and
doing substandard work while endangering the lives of American soldiers.

October 15 – “Redacted” (2007)

This film is a drama based on the Mahmudiyah killings, the
gang-rape, murder and burning of a fourteen year old Iraqi girl in
March 2006 by US soldiers, who also killed her parents and younger
sister.

October 29 – “Rendition” (2007)

This film centers on the controversial CIA practice of extraordinary
rendition. It is based on the true story of a Canadian
telecommunication engineer who was deported to Syria and tortured in an
apparent example of the US policy of extraordinary rendition.

November 5 – “Stop-Loss” (2008)

After serving tour of duties in Iraq, some American soldiers are
ordered to return to the frontlines as part of the military’s
controversial stop-loss policy. This film presents the impact of the
stop-loss policy upon a decorated war veteran who once served his
country with pride.

November 19 – “The Valley of Elah” (2007)

This film is based on actual events, and explores themes including
the Iraq war, abuse of prisoners post-traumatic stress disorder
following active combat and portrays a father’s hunt for his son’s
killers. The plot hews very closely to the story of Richard Davis, an
Iraq War veteran murdered upon his return home in 2003.

Take a stand for access to birth control for all.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed
regulations that could seriously undermine access to basic reproductive
health services -- including birth control and abortion.

Please act right now. The deadline on public comments is fast
approaching, and we have to generate intense opposition to these
dangerous regulations. Click on the button to the left to send a
message to the Department of Health and Human Services to stop their
efforts to block women’s access to basic reproductive health services
of visit http://action.aclu.org/hhs_comment.

The rule leaves open the possibility that -- based on religious
beliefs -- institutions and individuals can deny women access to birth
control. It also permits individuals to refuse to provide information
and counseling about basic heath care services. And it expands existing
laws by permitting a wider range of health care professionals to refuse
to provide even referrals for abortions.
