Education Activists Take School Closing Fight To City Hall (VIDEO)

A few hundred education activists kicked off the last day of the Chicago Teachers Union's three-day march against school closings at William J. & Charles H. Mayo Elementary School Monday morning. Education activists also delivered a petition calling for a moratorium on school closings to City Hall this afternoon. Progress Illinois was there for the actions.

Community Activists Say Bank Of America Is A 'Destabilizing Force' In Chicago (VIDEO)

Bank of America (BOA) serves as a destabilizing force in Chicago’s blighted communities, according to approximately 50 protesters who took their message to a downtown branch on Tuesday.

Organized by the Grassroots Collaborative on the eve of Bank of America’s shareholder meeting in North Carolina, demonstrators rallied against policies that, according to protesters, has led to Chicago school closures and community devastation.

“We have schools that are closing, homes that are abandoned, and neighborhoods falling apart; this is a time when we need our neighborhoods to be built up and not destroyed,” said Amisha Patel, executive director of the Grassroots Collaborative. “It’s time for Bank of America to do everything they can to strengthen our communities.”

Watchdog Group Slams Wells Fargo For Ties To Private Prison Industry

The United States prison industry continues to shift towards private ownership of facilities, and the immigrant and minority populations in most prisons now disproportionately outnumber white inmates.

In light of these details, an economic advocacy group is pointing an accusatory finger at Wells Fargo for being a major financier of some of the largest private prison companies in the country.

Intent on exposing Bank of America's fraudulent foreclosure practices, over 60 men, women, and children joined the South Suburban MoveOn Council as it protested at the Bank of America (BOA) in Matteson, IL last Wednesday. Armed with signs revealing the shoddy business dealings of the bank, people lined Cicero Avenue to enlighten passing motorists about the ongoing nature of the mortgage crisis.

Op-Ed: South Suburban Residents To Protest Fraudulent Foreclosures This Week

Citizens who are concerned about the huge increases in home foreclosures in Illinois are meeting at the Bank of America, 4800 Southwick Drive (Rt. 30 and Cicero Ave.) Matteson, at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday to speak against the often illegal practices of mortgagers—and in support of Illinois House Bill 5665, which they hope will pass through the legislature and help put an end to the problem.

Protesters Take On Bank Of America In Joliet

On Saturday, members of the South Suburban MoveOn Council and dozens of outraged citizens met peacefully at Bank of America’s (BOA) West Jefferson Street location in Joliet, to protest its unfair policies regarding mortgages. When two members of the council attempted to enter the bank during normal business hours in order to present a letter addressed to BOA CEO Brian Moynihan, the security guards locked the doors against them.

Fed Up Illinoisans Fight Bank Of America Over Abandoned Foreclosures

A number of Chicago residents spent the week tirelessly protesting Bank of America for the plethora of abandoned foreclosed properties that are blighting neighborhoods across the city and state.

The group of Action Now members were joined by other organizations supporting their fight throughout the week. Fifty-two year old Marsha Godard, who held a Bank of America account, was arrested when she tried to speak with the financial institution's officers about the impact abandoned foreclosed homes are having in the city's communities.
