Chicago Chief Financial Officer Lois Scott testified at a City Council Finance Committee hearing yesterday that Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposed Infrastructure Trust “was conceived with the full-throated support of Chicago’s labor leadership.”
A massive Labor Day rally is scheduled for Monday morning at 11 a.m., starting in Grant Park. Scheduled speakers at the rally include Jorge Ramirez, president of the Chicago Federation of Labor, and Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the founders of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

Today, Chicago labor leaders gave their blessing to a proposed Walmart store on the South Side after the mega-retailer agreed to pay second-year workers about $1 over Illinois' minimum wage. But considering that the multi-billion company is notoriously secretive with its wage data, the challenge is to make sure they actually follow through.
