Nurses Hold Massive Peaceful Rally In Center Of Chicago (VIDEO)

Demonstrators at a National Nurses United rally at Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago today said that they were nervous violence might overshadow the nurses’ message of economic equality in what was billed as the second biggest event in a week of NATO summit-related protests.

But the two-hour event was without much incident, despite a crowd that likely exceeded the 2,000 people the nurses union said would attend. Read more »

Nurses To Challenge City Protest Permit Denial

National Nurses United members said today that they plan to file a legal challenge with the city of Chicago, after the city told them to change their rally destination for a Friday, May 18 protest, prior to Chicago hosting the NATO summit May 20 and 21.

“We are prepared to seek injunctive relief in federal court,” said Jan Rodolfo (right in photo), the Midwest director of National Nurses United at a press conference outside City Hall. Read more »

Revised Protest Ordinance Passes City Council Amid Concerns (VIDEO)

Activists used the Chicago City Council's passage today of two ordinances that deal with protests in anticipation of the May G8/NATO summits to say Rahm Emanuel is trampling on First Amendment rights.
