Including the voice of women, and particularly mothers, in pending issues across the city, state, and country is increasingly important, according to several organizations which saw the start of Mother’s Day weekend as an opportunity to advocate for their causes.

Number Of The Day: $2.4 Billion

The big news of the day is that Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed FY 2012 budget hole is a whopping $2.4 billion, which is double the amount that has been tossed around in recent months.

A report released today by the Civic Federation says the state is expected to spend $1.4 billion more than it has, while “overestimating” another $976 million for a backlog of corporate income taxes.

Number Of The Day: (A Misleading) $8.3 Billion

Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka says the state is on pace to be $8.3 billion in the hole by June 30, the end of the fiscal year. She slammed the controversial state tax increase because she said the state will still owe what it did a year ago. But it has been pointed out that she got to the “misleading” billions by adding up the unpaid bills and projected unpaid bills.
