Former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is pointing to an accounting error as the reason for the disappearance of $500,000 from his campaign fund.

Former congresswoman Debbie Halvorson has thrown her hat in the ring to run for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s now empty 2nd congressional district seat.

Echoing a protest from her staff Monday that said former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's application for unemployment benefits should not be approved because former elected officials are ineligible, current President Toni Preckwinkle said today “I don’t think it’s appropriate for elected officials who lose elections to apply for unemployment compensation.”
