LGBT Advocates Rally Across The Nation As The Supreme Court Hears Same-Sex Marriage Cases (VIDEO)

Hundreds of LGBT advocates marched on Chicago’s downtown streets last night, calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to rule in favor of marriage equality as it begins to hear arguments today on two cases that challenge the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8, which both ban same-sex matrimony. Progress Illinois was there for the candlelight march.

Hillary Clinton Voices Public Support Of Same-Sex Marriage (VIDEO)

Former Secretary of State and New York Senator Hillary voiced her public support of same-sex marriage today via a video posted on the Human Rights Campaign web site.

"LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our soldiers, our friends, our loved ones; and they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage. That's why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law," Clinton said in her almost six minute long video announcement.

Marriage Equality Could Be A Major Boost For Illinois' Struggling Economy

For a state that is in dire fiscal circumstances, passing the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act in Illinois, which would legalize same-sex marriage, would generate between $54 million and $103 million in new spending over the first three years, according to a new report.

Jon Huntsman Says GOP Must Become More Progressive

Republican presidential primary candidate Jon Huntsman said it's time his party adopt a more progressive stance on a number of issues at the University of Chicago Thursday evening.

At the event, organized by the university’s Institute of Politics, the former Utah governor and U.S. ambassador to China under the Obama administration took questions from journalist and Fox News contributor Juan Williams as well as the audience. In his answers, Huntsman described himself as a solid Republican, but was strongly critical of the direction his party has taken, adding that its doubtful that the GOP will find electoral success in future elections if they do not change.

“The minute we start to divorce fact and science from our public policy debate, we are adrift,” Huntsman said. “If Republicans are going to succeed long-term, we have to be the party of reality.”
