The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to take up the case involving a controversial law requiring Arizona police officers to check the immigration status of anyone they have in custody and suspect of being in the country illegally.

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a federal court ruling that forces Illinois to hold two elections for Senate on November 2, one for a candidate to conclude President Obama's old term and the other for a new full term that starts in January. Burris is hoping to remain in office until January instead of leaving office the day after the election.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Monday that a group of African-American firefighters can sue the city of Chicago over hiring exams. The city had challenged the firefighters' 1997 suit, contending that it was filed too long after the alleged discrimination took place.
