Emanuel Picks Daley-Men, Newcomer To Run Transportation (VIDEO)

Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel took some heat at a press conference today as he announced three top execs for the CTA. Two of them are Daley-men, including the outgoing mayor’s former chief of staff Forrest Claypool as CTA president, and close political ally Terry Peterson, who will remain as Chicago Transit Board Chair. Claypool replaces Richard Rodriguez, who was praised for his leadership during the massive snowstorm in February. Emanuel said Rodriguez -- who once was the city’s Department of Aviation commissioner -- did a “good job” and said he’s asked him to serve in other parts of his administration. Emanuel was then quick to defend Claypool as a “reformer” when pressed to answer if the former Chicago Park District superintendent was a political pick. See the video after the jump:

Cuts To High-Speed Rail In Federal Budget Deal Hurt Illinois Projects

States are still learning of the ramifications of the "the largest annual spending cut in history," also known as the compromise between Congressional Republicans and the White House. But one area sure to take a big hit: high-speed rail. With funding reduced, the Chicago-to-St. Louis project could suffer, and the possibility of a Chicago-to-New York City route may now just be a dream.
