Occupy Chicago Outlines NATO Protests (VIDEO)

Occupy Chicago says thousands of protesters will go to Chicago next week before the city hosts the NATO summit, May 20 and 21. While Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel views the summit as raising Chicago’s profile, Occupy thinks the event will call attention to their concerns and invigorate the Occupy Wall Street movement that started last fall.

Latino Political Leaders Plot 2012 Election Strategy

Latino leaders Wednesday lamented their community’s economic struggles and lack of a voice in national politics, while expressing hope they could make a difference in this year’s election.

“We have to educate folks on how you do politics,” said Jesse Rios, the executive director of the Chicago Metro Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, adding that more Latino residents must “knock on the door of their Congressman; knock on the door of their Senator.” Read more »

ICE Detainer Ordinance Could Stay Intact

The author of an amendment that would significantly change Cook County’s immigration detainer ordinance told Progress Illinois Wednesday that he doesn’t have the votes now on the 17-member Cook County Board of Commissioners to pass the amendment.

“Between five to eight commissioners support my amendment,” said Timothy Schneider, a Republican from Bartlett.
