A few new ads have hit the Illinois airwaves in recent days. The first spot comes from David Hoffman, who tries to connect Alexi Giannoulias to crooked developer Tony Rezko:
The Giannoulias campaign responded by pointing out that Broadway Bank did refuse to honor certain checks written by Rezko:
Now Hoffman is at it again, recycling the guilt-by-association attacks that Rush Limbaugh and the right-wing faithful tried to use unsuccessfully against President Barack Obama.
The fact is that Tony Rezko got loans from 16 different banks including Bank of Chicago, First Bank and Trust of Illinois, GE Capital, Harris Trust and Savings, LaSalle Bank and Manufacturers Bank. Broadway Bank refused to allow Rezko to cash checks when he had insufficient funds and also was the first bank to foreclose on Rezko for not paying a loan, forcing him into bankruptcy.
Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat running for comptroller, produced this basic biographical ad:
Lastly, there's Cook County board president candidate Dorothy Brown, who is trying to weather the "jeans day" storm with an ad touting her "proven track record of reform, innovation, and saving taxpayer dollars." As you can see, the style is a bit dated:
