With just five days to go before the February 2 primary, donors keep funneling money into the warchests of state and county-wide Democratic campaigns. We've added a new column to our fundraising spreadsheet featuring the totals from the A-1 disclosures (which include contributions over $500) filed between January 24 and January 27. Take a look:
What pops out at us? While he still trails challenger Dan Hynes by about $1 million in cash-on-hand, Gov. Pat Quinn is gaining ground, buoyed by big donations from SEIU ($250,000) and Ald. Ed Burke's (14th Ward) various PACs. Hynes, for what it's worth, pocketed $25,000 from Cook County Assesor James Houlihan and IBEW along with $100,000 each from the Illinois Political Action Committee for Education, the Illinois Laborers' Legislative Committee, and the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
Elsewhere on the ballot, Toni Preckwinkle continues to outraise her Cook County board president competitors this month, grabbing an additional $145,000. To counter, Terrence O'Brien's wife tossed in $130,000. The only other statewide candidate who made legit gains were self-funders Justin Oberman in the treasurer's race and Scott Lee Cohen in the lieutenant governor's contest. Each added $200,000 of their own money.
Full Disclosure: The SEIU Illinois State Council, which sponsors this website, has endorsed Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary for governor.
