Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is in great danger of losing his seat in November. If he does, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin apparently wants to rise in the caucus' leadership. Hoping to make some friends in the chamber, the Illinois Democrat has given $110,000 to the campaign funds of Senate colleagues and candidates who would vote on Reid's successor. He will have some competition for the top spot; Sen. Charles Schumer (NY), the third-highest ranking member, has already donated twice as much as his D.C. roommate.
