During the Super Bowl, Scott Lee Cohen announced at a bar on Chicago's North Side that he is withdrawing from the race for lieutenant governor. "For the good of the people ...I will resign," he told reporters. "The last thing I ever, ever wanted to do was to put the people of Illinois in jeopardy in any way."

The state Democratic Party must now decide who will replace Cohen on the ballot.
