Today, Mayor Daley introduced an ordinance that would transfer hiring oversight from the ethics compliance office to the city inspector general. Under the proposal, the inspector general would also gain authority to investigate aldermen -- an idea long opposed by City Council. Aldermen are expected to take up the measure at Wednesday's City Council meeting.
