If elected in November, potential Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady has promised to cut funding for all state agencies by 10 percent while lowering taxes by $1 billion. Even though he admits those actions won't close the state's deficit entirely, it's the only solution to Illinois' economic crisis he has proposed thus far. Senate Democrats want to find out just what type of effect such a plan would have on state government.
On Wednesday, the Senate appropriations committee will hold a hearing on the state's budget. Senate Democrats plan to lay out, agency by agency, what programs Brady's across-the-board slash would eliminate. The hearing begins at 10:30 am.
