In exchange for giving the green light to Mayor Daley's plan to extend the inspector general's power to investigate aldermen, members of Chicago's City Council have proposed a compromise that would give them authority to oversee major city contracting. Daley stripped aldermen of that power back in 1989. Alds. Robert Fioretti (2nd Ward), Walter Burnett (27th Ward), and Scott Waguespack (32nd Ward) are floating the proposal.
