Citing high costs and troubling problems with the state’s criminal justice and police accountability systems, death penalty opponents called for the abolition of capital punishment in Illinois at a rally at the state capitol Thursday. The advocates also expressed concerns that Sen. Bill Brady -- a supporter of the death penalty -- would overturn the state's moratorium if elected governor.
