To cut costs for students and the school, the University of Illinois board of trustees are considering creating an "accelerated" degree program in which students would be able to graduate in three years. Interim President Stanley Ikenberry guesses that one in five at the system's flagship campus in Urbana-Champaign would take advantage of the program.
