Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady is set to release his taxes to the press today, but just for a three-hour window in his downstate campaign headquarters. When asked if three hours was enough time to review the returns thoroughly, Brady told reporters "You'll have access to it." While Brady is not required by law to disclose his tax returns, his opponent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn has already released his information, making copies available to reporters.
UPDATE (2:12 p.m.): Between 2004 and 2009, Republican governor candidate Bill Brady's annual income fell from more than $500,000 per year to less than $120,000. His campaign says that the drop demonstrates how the Brady family construction business "is struggling in an economy that has been a burden on all businesses in Illinois." As a State Senator, Brady earns approximately $76,000 annually. More curiously, Brady's release shows the Bloomington Republican paid no net state taxes in 2008 or federal taxes in both 2008 and 2009. "Brady’s taxable income from 2009," the release obtained by Capitol Fax states, "came under a provision of the IRS in 2009 to help small business fight through and survive by allowing the sales of assets."
