In spite of a pay freeze that was enacted in December, a report conducted at the behest of county commissioners shows that lame duck Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's office has given 10 staff members pay raises in recent months. Stroger also admitted to hiring six top-level employees at salaries ranging from $95,000 to $150,000 since losing the February primary. Earlier this week, the Chicago Democrat vetoed an ordinance that seeks to put a hiring freeze on his administration.
