GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady told reporters today that he is in favor of lowering Illinois' minimum wage of $8.25/hour (which will go into effect on July 1) to the federal level of $7.25/hour.
During his tenure in the state legislature, Brady has repeatedly voted against raising the minimum wage. A February 22, 2007 article in the Bloomington Pantagraph also quoted him saying that lowering the minimum wage would be a way to create jobs in the state.
UPDATE (3:30 p.m.): Here's a response from Quinn campaign spokesperson Mica Matsoff:
Senator Brady has once again demonstrated his disregard for the hard working people of our state.
From rolling back the minimum wage to opposing equal pay for equal work and family medical leave, it’s clear that Brady’s completely out of touch with the daily concerns of the working families that are the backbone of Illinois.
Senator Brady's solution to our economic problems is to turn the clock back on one of our most essential worker protections. He’s simply too extreme for Illinois.
