Later today, Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to award $500 million in capital funds to the Regional Transit Authority. The money will cover equipment and station renovations for the Chicago Transit Authority, Pace, and Metra. While the Illinois Department of Transportation has appropriated large sums to school and road projects since the General Assembly passed its capital construction bill 15 months ago, mass transit had been systematically ignored.
