Overcoming one last procedural hurdle, the U.S. House joined their Senate counterparts by approving an extension of the filing deadline for emergency unemployment benefits today by a 272-152 margin. Just like on July 1, when the House took up on an identical bill, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kirk voted against the measure, along with Republican Reps. Judy Biggert, Peter Roskam, Aaron Schock, and John Shimkus. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law shortly, reinstating jobless insurance to 115,000 Illinois residents who have exhausted their benefits since June 2.
