The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is now estimating that more than 1 million gallons of oil have leaked into Michigan's Kalamazoo River, which is only 80 miles away from Lake Michigan. Experts say the spill could reach the body of water by Sunday if the leak is not properly contained.
UPDATE (1:45 p.m.): Mayor Daley is urging swift action from Michigan to stop the oil from making it to Lake Michigan, saying the oil is more of a threat than Asian Carp.
The planned deferral of legislative action to address fiscal 2010 imbalances until at least February or March leaves little time in the fiscal year to take actions to materially reverse the trend of financial weakening,” [analyst Edward Hampton said].
