Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill (SB 3568) today that puts harsh penalties in place for employers who shortchange or fail altogether to pay their employees. Wage theft is a serious problem in Illinois; the state's Attorney General investigates more than 10,000 claims annually. The total number of incidents is likely higher because some workers choose not to report the crimes.
