Illinois leaders applauded the U.S. Senate for voting yesterday to approve a $26.1 billion aid package for states. Still, while Illinois will pick up $400 million to prevent teacher layoffs, the state is now only slated to take in $500 million in additional Medicaid assistance, which is about $250 million less than Gov. Pat Quinn built into his public health budget.
UPDATE (9:40 a.m.): The House will return to session Tueday to vote on the aid package.
