The jury in the Rod Blagojevich federal corruption trial is getting close to a verdict. Today, they asked for a copy of the oath they took when they were seated as well as instructions on how to fill out a verdict form if a unanimous decision cannot be reached. Judge James Zagel has ordered the former governor and his brother Robert to stay within a 30-minute drive of the courthouse for the rest of the week.

UPDATE 7 (5:15 p.m.): Former governor Rod Blagojevich was convicted of one count, giving a false statement to federal agents. The jury, which deliberated for 14 days, failed to reach a unanimous decision on the other 23 counts facing Blagojevich. They were also unable reach a unanimous decision on the four counts facing his brother, Robert Blagojevich. The outcome is a huge blow to U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who is expected to seek a retrial on at least some of the charges including bribery, extortion, and conspiracy. The jurors have chosen not to speak publicly, so there will be much speculation as how they made -- or didn't make -- their decision. The Chicago Sun-Times offers a thorough rundown of the Blagojevich trial here.
UPDATE 8 (6:00 p.m.): Rod Blagojevich seemed to be in good spirits even though he was convicted on one count. Here is his reaction to the verdict courtesy of ABC 7:
UPDATE 9 (6:15 p.m.): U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald vows to retry the former governor saying there is a court date set for next week during which they wil make plans for a second trial.
