Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle plans to run for mayor of Chicago, a spokesperson said Wednesday afternoon. Del Valle, a former state legislator, told members of the City Council’s Latino caucus about his intentions during their monthly lunch meeting after Wednesday’s council meeting.
Another potential candidate, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, has canceled a scheduled trip to Chicago this weekend, citing "scheduling conflicts." Emanuel's itenerary included fundraisers for U.S. Reps. Debbie Halvorson (D-IL), Betsy Markey (D-CO), and Allen Boyd (D-FL).
