The Chicago region is worse off in terms of housing forelosures than comparable large metropolitan areas like those in and around New York City and Los Angeles. That's according to new data released by the Center for Housing Policy (CHP) and flagged today by Megan Cottrell of the Chicago Reporter. Chicago's foreclosure rate, Cottrell notes, is 51st out of the 366 large metropolian areas analyzed by CHP while the New York area's rate clocks in at 72nd and L.A.'s rate ranks 98th on the list. This morning and afternoon, U.S. Reps. Luis Guitierrez (D-Chicago) and Mike Quigley (D-Chicago) held a hearing about foreclosure mitigation in the Dirksen Federal Building downtown. Neighborhood leaders, aldermen, and representatives from large, mortgage-holding banks gave testimony.
