Former Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias will meet on Friday with a group of roughly six Chicago aldermen to discuss a potential Chicago mayoral bid. While the outgoing state treasurer told Crain's that lawmakers had approached him about the vacancy, some on the council say Giannoulias is laying the groundwork himself. He has roughly $1 million in his state campaign fund.
UPDATE (1:10 p.m.): Giannoulias spokeswoman Kathleen Strand announced today that "Alexi is not running for mayor."
