Gov. Pat Quinn announced yesterday that the state's jobs program, Put Illinois To Work, will come to an end next month. The program, which was unveiled in March, put $122 million toward a temporary jobs program. Federal funding for state jobs programs dried up on September 30, leaving the states to cover all the costs. Last month, Quinn extended PITW through Jan. 15, 2011 by selling tobacco bonds, saying, "When we have economic emergencies, we don't just watch people on the unemployment rolls. We roll up our sleeves and use our imagination, our creativity, to put people to work."
