Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk are asking federal authorities to look into the matter. Both Durbin and Kirk plan to meet with the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to discuss the issue. The EPA does not test for the metal, but a research group found that Chicago water contained three times more hexavalent chromium than a safety limit proposed in California.
