Two Chicago firefighters died this morning after a wall collapsed during an extra alarm fire at an abandoned brick building on the city's South Side. Authorities say 17 additional firefighters were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, some critical. Two of those men were pulled out from the rubble. Nearly 100 firefighters had responded to the “Mayday” call.
UPDATE (12:25 p.m.): One of the fallen firefighters has been identified as 38-year-old Corey Ankum. Ankum was a former police officer.
UPDATE (4:32 p.m.): Edward Stringer, 47, has been identified as the other fire fighter who perished in this tragedy.
