The Cook County Board voted to roll back the controversial sales tax hike implemented under former Board President Todd Stroger. The plan, which was approved by a vote of 12-5, would lower the county sales tax by a quarter-cent on the dollar starting in 2012, and another quarter-cent on the dollar starting in 2013. The gradual decrease in the sales tax was a campaign promise of Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
