In response to a new tax on internet sales, online retail giant Amazon.com cut ties with their Illinois affiliate websites that refer traffic to its site. Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation to force online retailers to work with affiliates to collect sales tax for purchases made by Illinois residents. Amazon.com uses affiliate websites that refer traffic to Amazon in exchange for a commission on purchases. The internet giant had roughly 9,000 such affiliates in the state.
