Rep. Don Manzullo (R-16) and U.S. Senator Mark Kirk sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking for a guarantee that Thomson Correctional Center will not be used by the federal government to detain Guantanamo Bay prisoners. On Monday the President ordered military trials of terror suspects to continue at Guantanamo, while saying he plans to eventually close the prison. The Republican lawmakers said a guarantee that the prisoners would not be moved to Thomson was needed in order to sell the prison.
